It’s Q&A Thursday, and I’m here with Adam from Viewership.com, and today we’re going to be answering a question you guys have been asking about.

We’ve been getting a ton of questions about finding a niche for your blog.

This one is from Pratik Sah, and it says: “I started blogging two years ago and I”m still not able to find the perfect niche. I don’t know what to do.”

What most people don’t realize in blogging, when it comes to finding a niche, it’s not just about finding something that you’re passionate about right now.

It’s also what you’re passionate about in the long run.

Adam’s still passionate about dating, but he’s more passionate about marketing.

Think about what you love. Before you go out there and create a blog, make sure you’re willing to do it for the next 10, 20 years.

If you’re not, make sure you have a team that’s going to carry it over and help push it forward, even when you’re not there.

The first step is passion. If you’re not passionate about something, you’re not going to blog consistently.

If you don’t know what your passion is, try 10, 20, 30 different things.

You may not figure out what your passion is, but you’ll figure out fast what you don’t like.

When you figure out what you don’t like, it’ll help you move in the direction of what you DO like, and that’s what you should be focusing on.

The next thing you need to know is, not everything is about passion.

There are some topics out there that just don’t monetize well.

Dating monetizes somewhat well, but what’s the problem with the dating niche? You need a lot of traffic to make money.

There are ways to avoid picking a blog niche that requires a lot of traffic.

A great tool to use when you’re determining your market niche is Google Keyword Planner.

Google Keyword Planner can tell you what keywords in your market niche are, how much volume they get, and how much clicks on those keywords are worth.

When something gets a ton of clicks, and the cost per click is high, you’re in a profitable industry.

You need to find a market niche that you’re passionate about but also makes money.

Next, it needs to have volume.

You can use Ubersuggest and type in keywords, and it’ll show you all related keywords within your industry, the search volume, the cost per click.

You can also use Google Trends to type in a keyword to see if it’s on an upward movement or a downward movement.

The last thing you want to do is pick a market niche that’s dying in popularity, that less and less people are talking about and in five years, you’re going to be out of a blog, or no one’s going to be reading it.

Finding a niche market is also NOT about blogging about ten different topics, Google had the Hummingbird update that squashed the anything and everything goes method in blogging.

With the Hummingbird update, Google favors niche blogs that are super authoritative and thorough on one topic, like presidents of the United States or pizza.

Bottom line: you have to find a niche market and become an authority on that topic.
